I've visited Kandersteg twice once in 98 with my troop and the second time in 2000 on a Regional Camp.
Kandersteg International Scout Centre is located high in the Swiss Alpes and has an excellent and wide range of activities. These include: River rafting, glacier hikes, mountain biking, climbing, swimming, absailing & various winter sports (during the winter). Other activities run on a weekly basis include an International Barbecue, Games & a massive International Campfire.
No matter when you go you’re guaranteed to meet a large range of scouts from across the world. It’s a good base for getting top see central Switzerland including Berne, Interlaken, the Aples and Lucerne. The staff are mainly volunteers who are clearly visible with they’re pink jumpers. They’re all really friendly and come from scouting backgrounds form across the world.
The only disadvantage maybe the two days traveling require by land. Or coarse its benefits are you’ve got a coach for your time there and you can go via Disneyland Paris. All in all Kandersteg is well worth the visit.

Kandersteg has to be the best camp I was ever on. I was there as a scout in 1996 and went back last year (2002) as a venture leader. The facilities are endless and the staff are more than willing to help with any problems that arise. This time round we concentrated mainly on hiking but also went river-rafting, paragliding, rock-climbing and abseiling. As before it was an experience never to be forgotten. I would definitely encorage any troop to travel to Kandersteg if at all possible.
